AI Logos vs. Designer Logos: Who Did It Better?

Side-by-side comparison graphic titled “ChatGPT vs Designer: Who Did It Better?” showing AI-generated logos contrasted with professionally designed logos for three small businesses.

AI design tools are everywhere right now, and they can spit out logos in just a few seconds. But here’s the catch: logos are more than just symbols. Branding is about meaning, story, and strategy — and that’s where human designers bring something AI simply can’t.

AI Logos vs Designer Logos: Why Human Strategy Wins Every Time

Let’s break down three client projects and see how AI logos compared to designer-created ones.

The Stone Lotus Salon

The Brief:

  • Hair salon offering a tranquil, elevated salon experience

  • Open to color palettes and typography

  • Natural, peaceful, and elegant aesthetic

  • Wanted a lotus in the design

  • Inspired by nature, balance, and Bali-style

AI Version: There’s nothing really wrong with this AI-generated logo… it’s just a little flat.

My Version: How I made this branding true to the client — something AI couldn’t do:

  • A lotus symbol, designed with 3 central blooms, subtly representing the client’s family

  • Custom “S” letterforms, shaped to echo the soft curves of lotus petals

  • A center dot symbolizing balance, presence, and harmony

Andy’s Wild Rise

The Brief:

  • Micro-bakery specializing in homemade sourdough products

  • Minimal, natural, simple, and rustic aesthetic

  • Avoid bright colors or overly decorative illustrations

  • Wanted a wheat stalk incorporated

  • Warm, earthy color palette

AI Version: Again, there’s nothing really wrong with this one… it’s just overdone. A quick Google search for ‘bakery logo’ and you’ll see the same cliché wheat stalk.

My Version: How I made this branding true to the client (beyond AI’s one-size-fits-all):

  • A custom abstract wheat stalk illustration, hand-textured for a natural, homemade feel

  • A rustic serif font that adds artisanal character

  • A modified “y” for better balance and legibility

Just Pack and Go with Mary

The Brief:

  • Travel agent helping couples and families plan memorable, budget-conscious trips

  • Classic and southern inspired

  • Professional but approachable

  • Preferred fun fonts

  • Wanted a suitcase included in the logo

AI Version: This AI logo… was not it. AI even spelled my client's last name wrong! On top of that, there was way too much going on — the design felt busy and didn’t flow.

My Version: How I made this branding true to the client (beyond AI’s guesswork):

  • A border design that subtly nods to suitcase stitching and the perforated edge of an airline ticket

  • Hand-drawn suitcases, created with varied brushes and stroke weights for a textured, vintage effect

  • A roughened serif font to capture the charm of old-world print

The Takeaway

AI tools are powerful and can be helpful in many areas of business — but when it comes to your brand identity, strategy and human creativity matter most. The real difference in AI logos vs designer logos is depth: AI can generate something fast, but a designer creates with intention, meaning, and long-term vision for your business.
